JFK CES

Centralized Examination Station (CES)

Unlock the opportunities

About WFS CES

The JFK Centralized Examination Station is the first such facility at JFK and unique in its scope. As a Ground handler, deeply rooted in the JFK community,  WFS is uniquely positioned to understand the complexities of the JFK cargo operations. Handling the cargo from end-to-end from its arrival at JFK we expect to receive feedback and work closely with airline partners and their representatives, the freight broker community,  and other critical cargo players at JFK to ensure a successful CES operation from its start.

The JFK CES will improve the efficiency of cargo examination by CBP while also generating efficiencies across the cargo stream at JFK. Cargo destined for the CES will be removed from the normal cargo stream allowing for these shipments to move to the destination quicker.

What is a CES?

A CES is a Customs Centralized Examination Station, a federal examination facility. The facility is dedicated solely to completing customs exams of import, export, and transiting cargo.

What is WFS’s Role?

WFS is the CES operator and provides CBP the service of facilitating the logistics necessary for the  physical inspection and handling of the cargo assigned for examination. This will include acceptance of cargo into the facility,  verification of the shipment, staging cargo pre-exam, and presenting the cargo for examination. Upon completion of the exam, WFS employees will be responsible for repackaging shipments and storing for pickup by brokers or return to GHA or CFS. If required,  WFS will provide drayage services for CBP Agriculture  and general cargo shipments   within the airport boundary as an ad-hoc service. WFS does not complete the examinations itself, these are completed by CBP officers.
